Yr 6 Transition

Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and at Ilfracombe Academy, we are committed to ensuring every student experiences a smooth, supportive, and positive transition. We understand that this can be both a thrilling and sometimes anxious time for students and their families, which is why we place great emphasis on making the move from primary to secondary school as seamless as possible.

Our dedicated transition programme begins well before students arrive in Year 7. We work closely with local primary schools to build strong relationships, share key information, and understand each student’s individual strengths and needs. Students will have the opportunity to visit the Academy, meet staff and future classmates, and take part in induction activities designed to help them feel confident and prepared. The Academy's summer school is also well attended and another bridging opportunity to build students confidence about starting at a new school.

At Ilfracombe Academy, we pride ourselves on being a caring and inclusive community. Every new student is supported by a team of experienced staff, including form tutors, Heads of Year, and pastoral support workers, who are always on hand to help with the challenges and excitement of secondary school life.

We also engage with parents and carers throughout the transition process, ensuring open communication and a shared commitment to helping each child thrive. By the time September arrives, our students are not just ready for secondary school – they’re ready to flourish.
